Kuchchaveli Hotels: Seclusion and Resorts North of Trincomalee
Kuchchaveli is where Trincomalee's coast empties out. About 30 kilometers north of town, past Nilaveli, the beach runs on with dunes, scrub and a handful of secluded resort-style properties, and very little else. That absence is the product.
This guide explains who should book the seclusion, and who will regret it by day two.

The coast
The beach at Kuchchaveli is long, empty and wilder in feel than Nilaveli: low dunes, sparse vegetation, and stretches where yours are the only footprints. In season the sea is calm and excellent for swimming. There is no strip, no row of restaurants, no evening scene. What there is: space, quiet and the horizon.
Hotels in Kuchchaveli: what to expect
Accommodation here means a small number of resort-style and high-end properties spread along the coast, built for guests who intend to stay put. Expect to take most meals where you sleep, because alternatives are a drive away. That makes the choice of property matter more here than anywhere else on this coast, and it makes half-board arrangements worth considering.
This is Trincomalee's honeymoon and special-occasion coast. It is not a base for exploring: town is close to an hour away, and even Nilaveli's Pigeon Island boats are a 20 to 30 minute drive south.
Who Kuchchaveli suits
Couples marking an occasion, travelers at the end of a busy Sri Lanka itinerary who want days of nothing, and anyone whose ideal evening is dinner at the resort and an empty beach at sunrise. Skip it if you get restless, travel on a budget, or want restaurants and activities within reach.
